Moisturizers

Moisturizers includes three categories:

  • Humectants (substances that attract and hold water to your skin like Glycerin and Hyaluronic Acid)

  • Emollients (ingredients that sooth and repair dry skin like skin butters and oils)

  • Occlusives (elemental skin protection barriers like squalaene or beeswax)

Ola Road elixirs always contain two or more of these fundamental moisturizers.

And in combination with CBD? Kukui Oil + CBD + Ola Road butters + essentials oils = A chef’s kiss of skin & body magic!

So, what’s the big deal about Kukui Oil?

Kukui (aka Candlenut) is a noncomoedogenic (won’t clog the pores), incredily moisturizing oil with transdermal properties that can assist with psorisis and excema. Hawaiians used the Kukui for joint pain, bruising, stretch marks, inflammation, etc. It can heal minor wounds and has anti-aging properties (although I doubt ancient Hawaiians gave a hoot about that).

Kukui is so powerful that if you spray it in a room full of brittle jack asses, they will transform into moisturized, nice people. Fibbing…they’ll still be jack asses.

Noni

For centuries, Polynesians have used Noni (Morinda citrifolia) for a variety of ailments. This strongly-scented fruit was used to treat everything from diabetes to ukus (lice) to sunburns, skin irritations to spiritual illness. Today, some claim it can do everything from remove dark spots to inhibiting aging to acting as an anti inflammatory agent. At Ola Road, we promote its anti-inflammatory properties — oh, and we have also totally embraced its power ward off evil spirits (kidding…kind of).

Mango and Cupuaçu Butter

Mango butter is derived from the mango seeds. Cupuaçu is made from the Amazononian Cupuaçu tree which is a kissing cousin of cacao. Both nourish the skin, have anti-aging properties, improve skin elasticty….we could go on and on. Is it any wonder why include these butters in our potions?

And by the way, who doesn’t love a delicious mango and chocolate confection?

Squalane

“Squalane, a saturated oil that’s used in skin care products as a moisturizer, helps increase hydration, and thanks to its anti-inflammatory properties, can help with acne and excema.”
Cleveland Clinic

Fun fact: At one time, Squalane was made from a shark’s liver (eeewww!). Rest easy: Ola Road Squalane is derived from olive oil.

Arnica Oil

Have you been awkward since birth? Do you trip and sprain your ankle(s) on flat surfaces? Do you run into posts while texting? If this sounds like the start to a very sad memoir, it is, and it’s also the reason I reached for my first tube of Arnica ointment. Arnica is effective topical, whether in oil or ointment form, for bruising, muscle aches, cramps, arthritis, etc.

Calendula Oil

Calendula officinalis is in the daisy family. It is one of those magic ingredients that people claim removes dark spots, helps with acne and scaring, protects your skin from pollution. If you do an AI search, calendula would be a suit of armor in a bottle.

Here is why I started my love affair with calendula: When my son was an infant, I would slather calendula on him whenever there was any sign of a red dots on his baby privates (TMI?). We rarely experienced full blown diaper rash. I became a calendula devotee. We now also use it for mosquito bites and other skin irritations.

Ola Road elixirs rely on calendula for its antibacterial qualities, to ease redness, sooth burns and, of course, rashes.
